Admission Requirements
All students who will complete/have completed 6VWO (ASO), HBO/WO propedeuse, or the equivalent (e.g. IB-Diploma or A-levels), are eligible to apply to Roosevelt Academy; all profiles (profielen) can apply. There are, however, a few requirements students should check first:
- Students should have taken English and Mathematics (A and/or B) as exam subjects;
- English is the official language at Roosevelt Academy;
- Dutch students are strongly encouraged to take either the TOEFL or IELTS, although this is not an entry requirement. All Dutch students must have at least a passing grade [in English] at VWO level;
- Non-Dutch, non-native speakers of English are required to take a recognized English proficiency test. They will need a TOEFL computer-based score of 237 or higher or an internet-based score of 92 or higher; or an IELTS 7 or higher (with none of the four skills below a 6.5). Students who take the TOEFL test should enter code 8535 on their tests or Score Report Request Forms;
- Students who have scored an '8' or higher for their VWO are not required to take a test;
- Students with an International Baccalaureate diploma or European Baccalaureate diploma in English are exempted
- Students with a score of 6.5 (IELTS) or 220 (TOEFL) are encouraged to apply for conditional acceptance status
- Native speakers of English are not required to take a test;
- All students will be tested on their proficiency on arrival at RA and will be placed into the appropriate level of English.
International Diploma Requirements
- Please list your secondary education and the year in which you will obtain/have obtained your diploma. Students currently enrolled in a university are required to include the name of the institution as well as their specific field of studies and all courses taken/currently taking;
- A-levels/AS-levels: Please note that you need 3 A-levels to be admitted to a Dutch University. One A-level can be substituted by 2 AS-levels;
- American High School: The level of an American high school diploma is not the equivalent of a Dutch VWO diploma. Additional requirements for admittance therefore are: completion of four Advanced Placement (AP) subjects in one of two combinations: 2 AP language (of which one foreign), 1 AP math/science and 1 elective, or, 1 AP foreign language, 2 AP math/science, and 1 elective;
- Students who have completed one year of college or university credit, or the International Baccalaureate (IB) program may also apply.
If you are not sure of the level of your diploma, please contact the Student Office ( or ) well in advance of your proposed year of study. You should include a full academic report, i.e. your academic history.
