Courses

Roosevelt Academy offers courses in four different departments: Academic Core (ACC), Arts and Humanities (A&H), Social Science (SSC), and Science (SCI). In the first year eight courses are offered -- four per semester. First-year students are required to complete two or three courses from the Academic Core department. The five or six remaining courses should be taken in at least two of the other Departments. Furthermore, students are advised to select courses with their prospective major in mind.

At the end of the first year or at the beginning of the second year students are expected to declare a major with the help of their tutors. Within this major field of studies students are required to complete 10-12 courses. Outside this field of concentration, Roosevelt Academy has no required courses. Since all majors are multidisciplinary in nature, students can select courses that fit their individual needs or interests.

Course Program

The academic year is divided into two semesters of 15 weeks. Students are required to take four courses per semester, which are each worth 4 credits (7.5 ECTS). Courses are offered at three different levels:

  • 100-level (introductory): these courses have no prerequisites and, unless specified otherwise, are open to all students;
  • 200-level (intermediate): these courses have prerequisites and are only open to students who have successfully completed one or more courses at 100-level;
  • 300-level (advanced): these courses have prerequisites and are only open to students who have successfully completed one or more courses at 200-level. These courses complete a full track in one of the departments.
