Financial Information

Tuition

As part of a public university, the tuition fee for the Roosevelt Academy, and all Dutch universities, is fixed at € 1,672 (2010-2011 academic year). Dutch students qualify for Studiefinanciering (student grant). Depending on national regulations, many EU students can also receive maintenance grants from their own governments. For more information, please visit the IB-Groep website. Please note that in the academic year 2011-2012, the tuition fee for students from non EU/EEA countries will be EUR 7,650.

Housing

The cost of housing at the Roosevelt Academy is estimated at approximately € 300 per month (€ 3,600 per year). This covers rent and utilities -- gas, water, electricity. Students have the use of a bed room, a shared living room, kitchenette and sanitary facilities. Room sizes and housing arrangements vary, so please bear in mind that € 300 is an estimate only.

Personal / Living Expenses

In addition students are required to fund personal expenses such as meals, clothes, books, sports, insurance, travel and living expenses. Roosevelt Academy students are automatically member of the Roosevelt Academy Student Association (RASA) for which they ask a contribution of € 50 per year and allow you to participate in all campus activities. Non-EU or EEA students will also have to pay for a residence permit and the yearly renewals.

Expenses and Financial Assistance

Higher education in the Netherlands is subsidized by the Dutch government. For this reason there are not many opportunities to apply for financial assistance. RA itself has a very limited number of (partial) scholarships available each year to compensate (part of) the cost of tuition fee and/or housing fee. Meritable students who would otherwise not be able to join RA are eligible. The chance of receiving such a scholarship is very small. We therefore urge you to consider the options of financing your studies through other means.

Please note the following:

  • Dutch students: No scholarships are available. You can borrow money at a low interest rate through the IB-group.
  • Non-Dutch EU students: You should explore whether your country provides financing facilities that can be used while studying abroad at RA.
  • American students: Roosevelt Academy is part of Utrecht University, which has been approved for Federal Financial Aid for American Students (FAFSA, FFEL). This means you can apply for a federal loan while studying at Roosevelt Academy or Utrecht University. For more information you can contact FAFSA or check here.

For an overview of all scholarship programs at Utrecht University, please check www.uu.nl/financialassistance.

Special note to American students: Click here for more information on Federal Stafford Loans. Please keep in mind that most of the programs listed are intended for applicants of Masters and/or Ph.D. programs; not for undergraduate study.

Payment Plan

At Roosevelt Academy we realize students come from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds and that their financial considerations may be vastly different. We therefore have a payment plan available: students have the option of paying their tuition fee in one or more (monthly) installments.
