Majors
Majors are offered in the following fields of study:
The Academy founders strongly believe that an interdisciplinary and/or multidisciplinary approach will provide students with a broader perspective of their own possibilities and skills. Moreover, with the solid academic basis they will have gained after graduating, they will be better prepared for their further academic and post-academic careers. Even though students have the option of choosing a main direction within their major they are also required to take courses in related fields. In this way, they will be able to develop a better understanding and broader knowledge of their own field of study.
In order to major in Arts & Humanities and Social Sciences, students will have to complete at least six (6) courses from the Academic Core. Science students must complete at least five (5) courses from the Academic Core. In addition, ten (10) courses in Arts & Humanities or Social Sciences for a Bachelor of Arts degree are required. In order to qualify for a Bachelor of Science degree students will have to complete twelve (12) courses in the Science Department. Some courses may be prescribed by the department.
Minors
In addition to their major students have the option of choosing a minor. A minor consists of four related courses from one (or more) departments.
Internships
Although students are not required to do an internship in order to graduate we do value the work experience students gain from the internship. Students are encouraged to arrange their own internships; Roosevelt Academy will of course assist where necessary.
Internships for Life Science Students
Life Science students gain hands-on experience in the medical world early on in their education. Roosevelt Academy cooperates with the hospitals in Zeeland to offer students internships in many medical disciplines. Practicing doctors and surgeons introduce students to good medical practice and give specialized guest lectures. Roosevelt Academy and the Zeeland hospitals are also committed at the staff level to continued cooperation and creating a learning environment for all.
