Combining Music and Science |
First-year Sanderine van Odijk is going to broaden her studies in life science and music theory at Roosevelt Academy with a more practice-based music education. Following a successful audition at the Conservatorium (Academy of Music) in Tilburg, eighteen-year-old Sanderine has been accepted onto the so-called “Performing Arts Track”.
Sanderine had thought about reading music at university or going to the Conservatorium to study the clarinet, but also wanted to become a doctor. She applied for the Roosevelt Academy Life Science Track, where students take several medical courses as part of their Bachelor of Science and do a number of courses in the other departments.
At RA Sanderine is getting the opportunity to combine all her interests. “It’s going to be hard work, but it’s very exciting”, she says, “I’m so pleased I didn’t apply for medical school elsewhere or I would have had to give up the clarinet.”
