SCI 141 Earth System Science I

Content

This introductory course is the perfect start for students pursuing a professional career in the various branches of earth, ocean and environmental sciences. The course requires no specific pre-knowledge and is open to non-science majors who want to know more about our wonderful home, planet Earth. You will learn about the Earth’s development, structure, composition and processes, find out what the connection is between earth plate movements (tectonics), earthquakes, mountain building and volcanism, discover the conditions under which rocks, sediments and resources (oil, diamonds) are formed and investigate the way in which radioisotopes and fossils are used to determine geological time. This course will also help you acquire skills to do geological observations, which are the key to understanding Earth’s processes.
