Cognitive Science is the study of higher order human brain function The field is multidisciplinary and integrates the facts and techniques of Neurosciences with the behavioural concepts of Cognitive Psychology.

This course will refresh some basics of Neuroscience and Cognitive Psychology needed to tackle the diverse aspects of Cognitive Sciences. The main part of the course is attributed to explaining cognitive processes in terms of brain-based mechanisms. A selected number of topics will be dealt with, including executive processing, cerebral lateralization, emotional and social cognition and consciousness. In addition to established knowledge, selected current research questions will be discussed in depth. Participants will be familiarized with experimental approaches in the field of Cognitive Science, such that they become able to evaluate research findings and to design own experiments.
