This course continues the survey of macroeconomics (SSC 160) and examines the macroeconomic theory and policy of Keynesian and monetarist economics. In the first part we introduce expectations and examine their influence on financial markets, consumption, investment, output and policy. The second part extends the basic model by considering the open economy. We investigate openness in the goods and financial markets and the influence of exchange rates and exchange rate regimes. The third part reconsiders depressions and periods of high inflation and revisits fiscal and monetary policy using insights derived from the extended model. Special sessions devote attention to the macroeconomic world news
