RA students have investigated obesity and overweight from the angle of public policy within the framework of a course in public policy analysis.
Their research papers have been collected in The Policies of Food and Fat: A Comparative Perspective on Obesity and Public Policy. As most of the studies in this area have focused on the United States, the various contributions seek to provide a comparative perspective by looking at policies in the Netherlands and the European Union. Topics include the construction of dietary advice in the Netherlands, the framing of overweight and obesity in Dutch newspapers, a study of the policies of elementary schools to fight obesity and a critical examination of Jamie Oliver’s School Dinners.
